Description
Shilajit is a powerful natural substance revered for centuries in traditional systems, especially Ayurveda, where it’s used to make a rejuvenating tonic or rasayana. It’s a sticky, tar-like resin that ranges in colour from deep brown to black, with a strong, earthy smell and bitter taste.
Shilajit is formed naturally over thousands of years, from plant matter and minerals, influenced by microbial activity under high pressure in mountainous environments. The result is a nutrient-dense, bioactive resin packed with minerals, fulvic acid, humic acid, and other beneficial compounds such as dibenzo-α-pyrones (DBPs) (also known as urolithins) and DBP chromoproteins (DCPs).
Shilajit is also known by other names included but not limited to: Salajit, Shilajatu, Mumijo or Mummiyo, Mineral Pitch and Mountain Blood
Each name reflects local traditions, languages, and cultural views on the substance’s value and origins.
Shilajit is most famously sourced from the Himalayan mountain range, especially in the border regions between India and Nepal. However, it’s also been found in other mountainous parts of the world, including:
Tibet, Russia (particularly the Caucasus mountains and Altai region), Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Northern Chile, where a similar substance is known as Andean Shilajit.
Despite geographical differences, Shilajit from these regions tends to share core properties, although the mineral profile can vary slightly depending on the location and altitude.
Our Shilajit resin is hand-harvested directly from the Altai Mountains and purified using traditional methods.
